AECC has presented an award to the Valencia Conference Centre for its voluntary contribution to the Association’s social improvement programmes
The AECC has recognised the support the Valencia Conference Centre has given it since 2017. Among other events, the venue has cooperated altruistically in the 1st Valencian Region Congress for People with Cancer and their Relatives held on 8-9 February 2019.
This Corporate Social Responsibility initiative was recognised at the AECC’s Provincial Ordinary General Assembly meeting on 14 April. The award was picked up by Sylvia Andrés, the Centre’s Managing Director, who said: “We are very proud to be honoured by an association like the Spanish Cancer Association. Our purpose is to ‘help to help’ and there is no better reward and motivation than seeing how what we do assists people and society in general.”
The Congress for People with Cancer and their Relatives gathered more than 1,100 people with the aim of providing an all-round overview of cancer and the latest breakthroughs in research. It featured renowned specialists such as oncologists Ana Lluch, Vicente Guillem, Adela Cañete and Antonio Llombart along with public health specialists, psychologists, researchers, nutritionists and nurses as well as patients and their families who shared their experiences.
The event’s objectives included dealing with all aspects of cancer from the current situation of the pathology, its impact and forecasts for how it will evolve to the most human issues while also trying to dispel all the myths that still exist about it.
In parallel to the scientific programme, meeting points were set up for people and family members who are going through the process centring on complementary activities such as skincare and care for caregivers, cognitive stimulation and social resources.
Over the past year, the Conference Centre has also hosted the presentation of the 4th Run Cancer-AECC Valencia Circuit 2018 in which 69,000 people took part and handed out bib numbers for the ‘Valencia against Cancer’ race which attracted over 10,000 participants. The two events raised almost €360,000 which was entirely allocated to cancer research projects.
