From 6th to 8th May, the Valencia Conference Centre will be bringing together around 1,200 medical professionals at the Annual European Congress of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ECTES), which is being held in Spain for the first time in its history.

After congresses held in the cities of Amsterdam, Vienna and Bucharest in previous years, and a failed Spanish bid to bring the congress to Madrid in 2015, Valencia was chosen to host the 2018 Annual Congress of the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), a multi-disciplinary European medical society founded in 2007, which has 850 international members, and brings together professionals from a wide variety of medical areas centring on polytrauma and urgent surgery patients. The specialists it has in its ranks include surgeons, trauma specialists, intensive-care specialists, anaesthetists, emergency doctors, nurses and pre-hospital staff. Moreover, the society has different sections, such as Abdominal Trauma, Skeletal Trauma, Emergency Surgery, Polytrauma, and Disaster and Military Surgery, which perform various scientific activities and studies at European level.

This event is a unique training opportunity, in which the Spanish Surgeons Association (AEC) – the congress organisers – will be participating alongside other Spanish societies, such as the Spanish Society of Intensive Care Medicine and Coronary Units (SEMICYUC) and the Spanish Society for Orthopaedic Surgery and Orthopaedics (SECOT). The scientific programme, in addition to including several pre-congress courses and satellite symposia, features a highly prestigious line-up of around 100 international and 30 Spanish speakers, and will also be the backdrop for the holding of European certification exams, such as the European Union of Medical Specialists Board of Surgery Qualification in Emergency Surgery.
