European medical physicists to gather in Valencia: ECMP 2026 at Valencia Conference Centre
From 23 to 26 September, Valencia Conference Centre will host the leading conference in a discipline that is crucial for diagnosis, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, with over 1,200 participants expected and a programme focusing on innovation, precision and patient care.
From 23 to 26 September, Valencia will once again host one of those conferences that clearly demonstrates the role of the Conference Centre as a venue for high-calibre scientific gatherings. We will welcome the 6th European Congress of Medical Physics (ECMP 2026), the leading medical physics conference in Europe and a discipline that plays a part in the lives of millions of people every time they undergo an MRI scan, a CT scan, radiotherapy treatment or a nuclear medicine scan. Behind all these processes are professionals who ensure that they are safe, accurate and effective.
A conference that bridges the gap between science and patient care
The theme of this year’s event, “Advancing Healthcare through Physics: Bridging Science and Patient Care for a Sustainable Future” encapsulates perfectly the scope of the event. The ECMP is designed as a comprehensive forum for updating knowledge, sharing research, discussing challenges facing the sector and gaining first-hand insight into the latest technological innovations applied to healthcare. The scientific programme will address topics such as proton radiotherapy, artificial intelligence applied to diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, dosimetry and radiation protection
Conferences of this kind are particularly valuable because they highlight how scientific knowledge directly impacts people’s lives. Medical physics improves diagnostic accuracy, the effectiveness of treatments and the safety of patients, healthcare professionals and the general public.
An international event with a highly specialised focus
The sixth edition of the ECMP will bring together hospital medical physicists, researchers, academics, biomedical engineers and representatives from the healthcare technology industry in Valencia. The organisation expects to welcome between 1,200 and 1,300 participants, and three months before the event was due to take place, the numbers registered had already exceeded 1,100, a clear sign of the interest this year’s event has generated. Although this is a European conference, it will also be attended by delegates from Africa, Asia and the Americas, which reinforces its international reach.
The programme will also feature 10 leading guest speakers, involved in cutting-edge projects in radiotherapy, magnetic resonance imaging, radiobiology, radionuclide therapy and PET technology. The official website already lists names like Xun Jia, Luc Beaulieu, Mark Ladd, Iuliana Toma-Dasu and Irene Torres-Espallardo, among others.
A conference centre equipped to host events of this complexity
From the very start of the candidacy process, the Conference Centre emerged as the ideal venue for the event. The organisation was looking for experience in organising high-level international conferences, technical facilities, and the flexibility to host parallel sessions, a trade exhibition and simultaneous training activities. In this context, the Palace has become, in their words, “a partner in the organisation, not just a venue”.
This recognition ties in directly with one of our strategic priorities: to continue to provide a venue capable of hosting complex, international and highly specialised conferences, not only in terms of the physical space, but also through our collaboration with the organising bodies.
A pivotal time for the discipline
The conference also comes at a particularly significant time for medical physics. The integration of artificial intelligence into clinical workflows, advances in particle therapies, greater precision in cancer treatments and the expansion of functional imaging will feature prominently in the scientific debate at this year’s renewal. All of this makes ECMP 2026 an important event, particularly well-aligned with the major changes currently taking place in the field of high-precision medicine.
For us, hosting this event means putting Valencia back at the heart of a European conversation on science, innovation and health. It also boosts Palace’s position as a venue for conferences that generate knowledge, attract talent and raise the city’s profile in strategic sectors.
Valencia as part of the experience
The organisers also emphasise something we know only too well: that those attending ECMP 2026 will take away new knowledge as well as the experience of a city that combines quality of life, gastronomy and cultural heritage. This combination of scientific content and the destination experience is a key factor in making Valencia a particularly competitive venue for events such as this one.
That’s why ECMP 2026 will be a major medical and scientific event, as well as a new opportunity to continue to do what gives meaning to our work: connecting Valencia with the conferences that are helping to shape the future.
