The Valencia Conference Centre has been chosen as the host venue for the Spanish Society for the Surgery of Obesity´s 12th Congress. Given the growing importance of this type of surgery, the scientific programme which has been put together for the event aims to share the latest advances in the field. The objective is also to consolidate experiences and assess medium and long term results via the contributions of Spanish participants and of several renowned international speakers, such as Bruce Schirmer and John Melissas, from centres of excellence in the USA and the European Union respectively.

Multidisciplinary involvement in the treatment of patients suffering from obesity is growing. In response to this, the first National Symposium for Psychology Applied to Bariatric Surgery Patients has been included in the congress events with a view to sharing the latest nursing and nutrition know-how. The objective is also to reach consensus protocols for preparing and monitoring these patients before and after their operations.
