When Their Majesties the King and Queen officially inaugurated the Conference Centre on July 2nd 1998 next to the old Ademuz road, in the outskirts of the city, few citizens could have imagined that seven years later that singular building with the unusual diamond shape frame, was going to become the driving force for change not only for that part of the city but for the very nature of urban tourism coming to Valencia.
Today that road has turned into the Corts Valencianes Avenue flanked now by the most modern buildings in Valencia as part of an urban planning that has transformed the northwest part of the city in one of the most attractive and with one of the highest growing economic rates.
The Conference Centre, designed by Norman Foster as a tribute to modernity, light and water, has turned into one of the symbols of the new Valencia on well founded reasons, leading the urban revolution that has allowed the creation of new green spaces, the construction of office and residential complexes and the economic dynamism of an extensive area that now represents the city´s image of the XXI century.
The origin of this symbol can be found in both its role as a functional and smart meeting centre and in the Centre´s own activities accounted for in this very number of e-Palco that has placed it among the leading meeting and conference centres in Europe, a leadership in which Valencia reflects and intends to identify it self in the coming years.
The number of hotels now around the Valencia Conference Centre has increased, with hotels such as the Novotel Vlc, the Ibis Valencia Palacio de Congresos or the newly inaugurated Eurostars Gran Valencia, a luxury hotel to satisfy the most exclusive client demands, to which two other five star hotels will be included soon: the Hilton and Sorolla Palace.
This part of the city is perfectly located to enjoy Valencia at its best. Close by, the main shopping centres provide a large choice of restaurants and shops. Communications by tube and bus are excellent, allowing the Conference Centre visitor easy access to the historical centre of the city, the maritime district and the headquarters of America´s Cup 2007, as well as other leisure zones and activities and tourist attractions such as the Cabecera Park or the City of Arts and Sciences
