This achievement not only highlights culinary excellence but also contributes to positioning Valencia as an internationally renowned gastronomic, cultural, and tourist destination.
Our recipe book UNITING FLAVOURS: 360º in Mediterranean culinary experiences has won the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards at the national level.
The Gourmand Awards, also known as the Oscars of cookbooks, were established in 1995. They provide a unique opportunity to showcase the culinary richness of a country. This recognition reinforces Valencia’s reputation as a leader in gastronomy and sustainable culture.
In Uniting Flavours: 360º in Mediterranean Culinary Experiences, published by the Valencia Conference Centre, professionals from event tourism, gastronomy, and nutrition collaborated with institutions such as the World Sustainable Urban Food Centre of València (CEMAS), Lluís Alcanyís Foundaiton at the University of Valencia, the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (IVIA), the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Valencia, Gourmet Catering & Eventos, and Agencia KLIPERDVILA. All of them are part of GastroHub-Valencia, which was created two years ago with the aim of establishing our city, its province, and its Autonomous Community as a reference point for culinary literature and sustainable cuisine. This is achieved through the synergies of various public and private institutions.
A total of 205 countries participated in this global competition, and there were 71 finalists. Uniting Flavours, part of the MagNuS (Magnitude, Nutritional value, and Sustainability) project to be launched in 2022, highlights the richness of the Mediterranean diet, which has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The book is not only a collection of recipes, but also a compendium of innovation and knowledge that integrates Gastronomy 360º with the One Health concept of congress tourism. The sustainable approach and aspects such as nutrition and food, as well as the interactivity of the format and the participation of a multi- and interdisciplinary team were key to the victory.
This achievement not only highlights culinary excellence but also contributes to positioning Valencia as an internationally renowned gastronomic, cultural, and tourist destination. It supports Green Capital initiatives and promotes research in sustainable gastronomy, particularly in the field of meeting tourism.
This recognition is a step towards creating healthy and sustainable environments and promoting accessibility to nutritious choices. It demonstrates how public-private partnerships can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
