The Valencia Conference Centre, a green building
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the congress venue's strategy
We are proud to present our Corporate Social Responsibility Report
Our building was designed to be a benchmark in congress tourism at national and international level. It opened its doors almost 23 years ago. And with this opening it changed a neighbourhood. It changed a city. Valencia. And it began to take its place on the roster of European congress venues which had sustainability as part of their DNA.
The Valencia Conference Centre was conceived as a green building that minimises its environmental impact. The design proposed by the British architect Norman Foster became the first initiative to be launched under the concept of Green Architecture. Its orientation, shape and construction optimise energy savings thanks to its limestone cladding and the use of a separate aluminium-zinc roof to improve the building’s insulation and take advantage of natural ventilation. In addition, a photovoltaic roof was installed in 2008, generating 3.2 million kWh of energy. Thanks to all the initiatives implemented, our building generates savings of more than 1,094,000 kWh per year, which means a reduction of 831,440 kg in terms of CO2 emissions.
Over the years, and thanks to its sustainable architecture, the Valencia Conference Centre has become a green platform for dialogue, with its strategic plan totally aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This implies a general commitment to responsible consumption on the part of the team, organisers, suppliers and participants involved in the events.
Our CSR Report provides details of all the actions we have carried out.
