This meeting of tourism experts from around the world, which will focus on the five pillars that make up a smart tourist destination: governance, accessibility, sustainability, technology and innovation, will be held at the Valencia Conference Centre from 21 to 23 November. It also coincides with the designation of Valencia as the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2022 and the 10th anniversary of the Smart Tourist Destination model promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

The congress, which is free of charge, will become an open forum to discuss the opportunities and challenges of tourist destinations, the solutions they require to remain competitive and sustainable and how technology and innovation applied to the tourism sector are generating structural changes that have come to shape a new business environment with the help of tourism intelligence.

What will this congress be about?

More than 600 people are expected to attend, including people from public authorities, the business sector, research and academia, technology centres, civil society, local stakeholders and universities from all over the world, to discuss and jointly develop the tourism model of the 21st century, sharing knowledge, forming alliances and making progress in the understanding of the key features of smart tourist destinations.

This third Congress, organised by the Government of Spain, together with the Valencian Regional Government, Valencia City Council, the Visit Valencia Foundation and the World Tourism Organisation, will address, among other topics, tourism governance, the digital transformation of the tourism sector, circularity applied to tourism, the accessibility of tourism resources and new tourism indicators, as well as the importance of sustainability as a key factor in the transformation of the sector.
