We are the European Green Capital!

On 27 October, Valencia was named European Green Capital for 2024.

This was announced by the European Commission at a gala held in the French city of Grenoble, which holds the title this year.

Valencia is one of the most sustainable cities on the planet. It has everything. To its long list of qualities and attractions, we now add SUSTAINABILITY. Over the last few years, the city has made great strides towards becoming one of the leading cities in sustainable tourism at a national and international level.

The reasons for its sustainability are, among many others, the extension of parks and gardens in the city and its surroundings, which currently total five million square metres, and its more than 160 kilometres of cycle lanes.

Being a regular destination for national and international tourism, the city of the River Turia is a welcoming and hospitable place. It also offers a wide range of cultural, commercial and leisure activities, with unique venues for sport and leisure, such as the former riverbed, the lungs of the city.

And did you know that Valencia is the first city in the world to certify and verify the carbon footprint of its tourist activity and to be recognised as a Sustainable and Smart City by the International Telecommunications Union? And we can vouch for this.

The city’s sustainable urban mobility strategy includes the introduction of hybrid and electric buses to the vehicle fleet, and it has become a leader in sustainable gastronomy by creating the World Centre for Sustainable Urban Food (CEMAS), the initiative of the City of Valencia and the FAO to raise public awareness of the importance of promoting food that contributes to the protection of the environment.

We are very happy about this achievement and we will continue to work towards a fully sustainable model!
