In addition to the goals we have already reached such as being world pioneers in verifying and certifying the carbon footprint of tourism and being the most water-efficient European city with real readings thanks to remote metering, we continue to notch up milestones that confirm our commitment to the United Nations SDGs.

Now, it has earned the distinction of being the top tourist destination in the Valencian Region, a distinction awarded by the Valencian Regional Government for recognising tourism as one of the region’s main economic assets. It is the mark of an international destination, increasingly visited all year round, in which some of the main criteria assessed were the sustainability of the tourism model, digital transformation and innovation.

This newly achieved milestone paves the way for future challenges, such as the possible bid for the city to be the European Green Capital in 2024 and the ambitious project to become a Carbon Neutral Destination in 2025.

In each and every one of these challenges, the Valencia Conference Centre has contributed, and does so every day, to making Valencia a green city and an international benchmark in sustainable tourism. In our firm commitment to complying with the 17 SDGs, we are currently working on our SDG Project, which we launched in 2020. This initiative pervades all the Centre’s activities to contribute to Valencia’s progress in its smart city strategy; to implement urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts; and to guarantee sustainable consumption and production methods.

Furthermore, 40% of our investments have been spent on improving sustainability and save approximately 1 million kWh of energy every year. This saving prevents the emissions of 707 tonnes CO2 eq., the approximate amount released into the atmosphere by 150 vehicles running on the roads during a whole year. Our photovoltaic roof has also generated more than 3 million kWh of clean energy since 2008.

If you would like to find out more about our sustainable initiatives, click <a
