1. Challenge

The Valencia Conference Centre is a flagship building of sustainable architecture, with latest generation facilities, high quality restaurants and excellent transport connections. Valencia is one of the most vibrant cities in Europe and an important centre for science and technology.”

This is how the presidents of the 2022 Metabolomics Organising Committee introduced the Conference Centre on their conference website. This was before the event was held and was aimed at attendees from all over the world.

It is the first time that the Metabolomics Society, made up of members from more than 40 countries, chose to hold their annual conference in Spain, and they did so with the Spanish Metabolomics Network and the Spanish Metabolomics Society (SESMET), whose Board of Directors includes our ambassador, researcher from the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Plants of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Antonio Granell.

Thanks, above all, to their special involvement in the candidature process, València was chosen as the venue and our building as the setting.

The organisation was able to use all the spaces of the Conference Centre to hold its plenary and keynote talks, several parallel scientific sessions, poster sessions, as well as other spaces for networking.

The Conference Centre team was therefore faced with the challenge of hosting this congress, which would bring together close to a thousand attendees from the United States, Asia and Europe. An event which turned Valencia, over five days, into the focus point of international attention for advances in metabolomics.

2. Solution

The audiovisual equipment and state-of-the-art technology of the building, together with the facilities, which offered great versatility of spaces, the connection between the main auditoriums and the outdoor gardens, as well as the cuisine that was adapted to the needs of the international attendees, were the main keys to ensure the success of the event.

3. Acomplished goals

And, in the words of Antonio Granell, it was. “The conference is a success in terms of both attendance and the decision to hold it at the Valencia Conference Centre, as it unites all the features necessary for this large size event.”

4. Curiosities
