Norman Foster’s flagship building will become an international showcase for the promotion of the World Design Capital year
The partnership involves making the building available for holding events from now on and even after the end of the World Design Capital year
Valencia, 23 February 2021. The international promotion of the city of Valencia gains further momentum thanks to the partnership between the Conference Centre and World Design Capital Valencia 2022 in the new agreement signed by the two organisations. The aim of this initiative is to give a further boost to the creative industries, companies and institutions in our city through a series of joint activities starting now and coming to fruition in 2022, when some of the World Design Capital’s most important events will be held in this venue.
“The Valencia Conference Centre has always been one of the best examples of design applied to space. The venue, designed and built by Norman Foster, is one of our most emblematic facilities. Moreover, the in-house team’s management led to this venue winning the World’s Best Convention Centre award in 2010 and 2018 from the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC). This accolade is a direct result of the Centre’s excellent internal organisation and the team’s understanding of how to design services for third parties. For us, and with a view to the international events we are planning for 2022, it is an honour to be a part of this agreement to work together on the image of the city,” explained Xavi Calvo.
In turn, the Conference Centre’s Managing Director, Sylvia Andrés, detailed some of the activities that will be rolled out thanks to the signing of the agreement. “The Conference Centre is fully aligned with World Design Capital Valencia, as we both promote initiatives to help position the city of Valencia on the international stage. Any bid submitted by the Conference Centre is always synonymous with quality in terms of the design of its services, and now we can also count on the support of the World Design Capital Valencia 2022 team. Furthermore, we intend to be a partner for World Design Capital Valencia 2022, making our building available for any congresses scheduled as well as for any other type of meeting that needs to be held in a venue of these characteristics,” she explained.
With one year to go before the celebrations, this agreement represents a major commitment between the two organisations, boosting their joint objective of improving the national and international outreach of Valencian design and creativity, which are key assets and defining features of a prosperous, innovative, inclusive, creative and sustainable city.
