The conferences held at the Valencia Conference Centre support those affected by the storm

As well as boosting the local economy, the conferences have shown solidarity with people affected

After the devastating effects of the storm across multiple municipalities of Valencia, the conferences held at the Valencia Conference Centre are not only contributing to the dynamisation of the local economy, but are also showing solidarity with people affected.

All the organisations of scheduled conferences have decided to host their events at the Conference Centre as a way of backing the city: IDUG EMEA 2024, which took place from 28 to 31 October; the 27th EVER Congress, from 3 to 5 November; the 54th Conference of the Spanish Society of Nephrology, from 8 to 10 November; the 49th National Conference of the Spanish Society of Nephrology Nursing, from 11 to 13 November; the 37th Conference of the Section of Oncological Gynaecology and Breast Pathology of the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO), from 13 to 15 November; the 76th Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Neurology, from 19 to 23 November; the 10th Conference of the Biomedical Research Networking Centre (CIBER), from 27 to 29 November; and the European Course on Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology of the European Society of Neuroradiology, from 8 to 12 December.

However, their commitment has gone beyond holding their conferences: they have launched various solidarity actions. For example, some of the organisations redirected the budget of social programme activities, such as the official dinner, to disaster relief platforms. In addition, donation campaigns, crowdfunding and collection of materials, such as hygiene products, cleaning utensils and school materials, among others, have been organised.

Some of the visible symbols of support from organisers, exhibitors and attendees included  minutes of silence in remembrance of the victims and the inclusion of black ribbons on posters, logos and spaces in the exhibition area.

Apart from this, our agenda also includes shows, such as the Mecano tribute act, Hija de la Luna, which has decided to turn its concert into a charity event, with all profits going to Casa Caridad València, the NGO which works to support vulnerable people.

All these initiatives illustrate that the events organised at the Valencia Conference Centre not only have an economic and scientific impact on our community, but also a human value.
