Awards and events bear witness to the good year that awaits our city, Valencia
Valencia is the land of flowers, light and love, as José Padilla said in his famous pasodoble. And only those who have visited Valencia can attest to the city’s magic. Indeed, the city of the River Turia is considered the best city in the world, as announced by Forbes magazine in 2022. The Forbes list includes the cities where people who do not live or work in their place of birth are happiest. Affordable public transport, recreational sports and high safety are three of the many key features that the city possesses and which Forbes considers to be of major importance.
The Mediterranean city boasts an internationally renowned cuisine – also offered at the Conference Center – made up of a diet acclaimed for being healthy and balanced, with its traditional market gardens and its autochthonous production of fruit and vegetables. This may be the reason why Valencia has been chosen as the venue for ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023’ awards. The city will host the largest annual gathering of chefs, restaurateurs, media and culinary icons on the gastronomic calendar.
As for culture, do you know who the prolific painter Joaquín Sorolla is? The artist, who painted his hometown on numerous occasions and is known for capturing the Mediterranean light on his canvases, died in 1923. For this reason, the Consell has passed a decree declaring 2023 as ‘Joaquín Sorolla Year’, to commemorate the centenary of his death and to allow the public to learn more about his legacy. Major exhibitions, talks and events will be held in his beloved Valencia throughout the year.
And we must not forget what is to come. Although Valencia has been declared European Green Capital 2024, the great change of the city is already being prepared this year. You can already enjoy its 594 hectares of urban green areas, its sustainable mobility model and the pedestrianisation of its most central squares.
