1. Challenge

For three days, Valencia was the focus of the scientific debate about polymer therapeutics. The 13th International Symposium on Polymer Therapeutics, organised by the Therapeutic Polymers Laboratory of the Príncipe Felipe Research Centre (CIPF), successfully brought together over 200 people from 25 different countries, to discuss the development of advanced therapies based on nanomedicine, to improve the treatment of different diseases.

In the words of the president of the organising committee of the symposium and ambassador of the Conference Centre, 'due to the pandemic-related public health measures, we wanted a larger space which could offer us every guarantee, somewhere like the Valencia Conference Centre'.

2. Solution

The organisation of this international symposium therefore required a safe venue, and at the Conference Centre we activated all the protocols to ensure the greatest possible safety for those attending the event. Likewise, it required the technology to broadcast the symposium to the entire world, and a place that would meet expectations in culinary terms, taking into account the different nationalities of the participants.

'Everything is going very well, because some of the participants are online, including speakers, and there have been no problems with connections, everything has worked really well, the food is great, everyone comments on how good the food is in Spain and how they really take care of us, so I recommend people do things here, because it’s well worth it'.

In addition, the Conference Centre Team encouraged the organisation to consider a number of sustainable actions, with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of the event.

In that regard, it opted for sustainable mobility, by choosing to have the participants stay in the hotels attached to the building as well as digital signage, digital downloading of contents, the separation of waste and the selection of sustainable materials at the stands and in the furniture.

With regard to catering, the client chose sustainable menus, with packaging and utensils made of recycled materials and using local suppliers in the organisation of the event

3. Acomplished goals

María Jesús Vicent, who we had the pleasure of working with in 2019, for the 46th Annual Meeting of the Controlled Release Society (CRS),which brought together over 1,200 researchers from around the world at the Valencia Conference Centre, told us about her satisfactory experience during that symposium.

'The symposium is going brilliantly, people are really enjoying it, there’s a lot of scientific discussion, being face-to-face is completely different from what we have been experiencing in recent years with online events, and the atmosphere is very good. And, above all, the people are very happy with the Conference Centre, the professionalism'.
