The Valencia Conference Centre board of directors aproves the award of the tender for the replacement of the building seatse

At today's extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors of the València Conference Centre, the award of the tender for the replacement of the seats and carpeting in auditoriums 1 and 2 of the building was approved

2 July this year marks twenty-four years since València Conference Centre opened its doors for the first time. For almost quarter of a century the Conference Centre has been carrying out its mission: to bring business tourism to the city of València, thus having a positive economic impact on the prosperity of citizens and enhancing the scientific and cultural prestige of València as a leading European and international congress city.

The Conference Centre must continue to fulfil its mission. In recent years, thanks to support from the Regional Government of Valencia, it has continued to attract investment and fortunately the building once again has state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment and remains a renowned venue. However, it must continue to improve, adapting to the times and renewing all aspects of congress activity.

The current seating in auditoriums 1 and 2 is the same as when the building opened, and it is one of the essential elements for the building and its activity. Over twenty-four years they have witnessed more than 3000 events. It could be said that the current seats have withstood the weight of two million people for almost 80,000 hours. However, it is clear that their replacement is absolutely necessary, and this major overhaul will take place in the summer of 2022.

Throughout the entire tendering process, from the preparation of the specifications to the analysis of the bids and even the supervision of the supply and installation of the new seats, the Conference Centre has been assisted by the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) which provided guarantees of professionalism, objectivity and rigour. The IBV signed the technical report on which the contracting board’s reports that lead to the award proposal are based. In the extraordinary meeting which took place today, the València Conference Centre’s Board of Directors announced the company with the best score as the successful bidder for the contract, ASCÉNDER.

In addition to supplying and installing the new seats, ASCÉNDER will also be responsible for removing the old ones, as well as installing the new carpeting and lighting in Auditoriums 1 and 2 of the València Conference Centre.

A total of five companies applied for the tender, all with considerable experience and prestige, and the above-mentioned company was the successful bidder. The scores for the subjective assessment criteria were awarded by the IBV on the basis of the criteria set out in the specifications, all of them aimed at guaranteeing selection of the highest quality new seats, based on ergonomics, design, materials, durability, tests carried out with groups of people specifically selected on the basis of their different heights, weights, etc., as well as a whole set of technical and ergonomic engineering studies
