This award comes at the time for the Valencia Conference Centre, which celebrates its tenth birthday this year. However, just like all the challenges the management team has set for the centre, it has not been easy. To be eligible for the EFQM Recognised for Excellence award, it is essential to have an advanced management system which has various different lines of action. In other words, it is not enough for an organisation to simply make a profit organisation to simply make a profitand treat its employees well. Not only does this type of award acknowledge that the organisation has an excellent management system, but it also takes into account customer and user satisfaction, the extent to which the organisation supports the professional development of its employees and whether or not it is able to exert a positive influence on society and its surroundings and even take on a leadership role. The multinational SGS was responsible for assessing the Valencia Conference Centre. The outcome of the inspection awarded the conference centre over 400 points, which is equivalent to 4star recognition.

The award ceremony was attended by Rita Barberá, the Mayoress of Valencia, Alfonso Grau, the Deputy Mayor and José Salinas, the Managing Director of the Valencia Conference Centre. Jesús Rodríguez Marín, Vice-chancellor of the Miguel Hernández University and Justo Peydró, Regional Director of SGS for the southeast of Spain, attended on behalf of EFQM.
