The MagNuS project has been presented with the NAOS Strategy Award!
This award from the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to food sustainability in tourism
The MagNuS project has been awarded the NAOS Strategy Award in the Entrepreneurship category by the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), part of the Ministry of Social Services, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030. This recognition serves to underscore our dedication to the promotion of healthy and sustainable food in the context of meetings tourism.
The NAOS Strategy Awards are held annually with the objective of acknowledging and promoting initiatives that encourage healthy eating and regular physical activity. The Business Initiative category is designed to recognise projects carried out by organisations, both in the food sector and in other areas, that have made a significant contribution to promoting healthy eating habits among the population.
The Valencia Conference Centre is proud to collaborate with World Sustainable Urban Food Centre of Valencia (CEMAS), our esteemed catering company Gourmet Catering & Eventos, the Lluís Alcanyís Foundation of the University of Valencia, and the Politechnic Univerisity of Valencia (UPV). In collaboration with UPV, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences and the Faculty of Education of the University of Valencia, our objective is to reduce food waste, meet tourism needs and improve sustainability in the MICE sector.
This initiative provides a comprehensive assessment of the waste generated, classifying it by food groups and evaluating its nutritional and energy value. Furthermore, the study provides an estimation of the number of individuals who could be fed with the discarded food. This approach has resulted in significant proposals for improvement, some of which have been published in the Foods-MDPI magazine.
The MagNuS (Magnitude, Nutritional Value and Sustainability) project is currently entering a new phase of development. Its objectives include training for autonomous waste measurement, the creation of healthier menus at no additional cost, and the design of a decalogue of good practices for event organisations. Furthermore, measures are being implemented to guarantee the safety of donated food items.
This award serves to reinforce the Valencia Conference Centre’s dedication to fostering a more responsible and resilient meetings tourism sector. By implementing initiatives such as the MagNuS project, we are committed to maintaining sustainability at every event and contributing to the creation of a fairer future.
