The Conference Centre and the Associació Valencia Capital del Disseny, working hand in hand to promote Valencia as World Design Capital

We will be working together on the events, which will go beyond 2022

It all started in October 2019 when, for the first time ever, the World Design Organization chose a Spanish city to become World Design Capital with Valencia beating the other finalist, Bangalore in India to host the 2022 event. It was a done deal. Valencia had won the bid. This project, led by the Associació València Capital del Disseny, with the support of the Valencia City Council, the Valencian Regional Government and the Valencia Tourism Board, to name just some of the Valencian institutions and organisations involved, became a reality that would soon begin to take shape.

The Conference Centre team, which is enormously proud to be working in this iconic building designed by Norman Foster, echoed the enthusiasm felt by society at large that the ‘Valencia’ brand was going to keep on growing in the future. This is something we are used to: promoting and growing Valencia is our main purpose. Our raison d’être. We increase the city’s outreach on the global stage. And this is the shared goal of the Associació Valencia Capital del Disseny and the Conference Centre.

With one year to go before the celebrations, we are strengthening our ties with this organisation, with which we have signed a partnership agreement for the national and international promotion of Valencian design and creativity, which are key assets and defining features of a prosperous, innovative, inclusive, creative and sustainable city.

For Xavi Calvo, the Director of World Design Capital Valencia 2022, the role of the Conference Centre team is key to this partnership. “It is thanks to the staff at the Conference Centre that all the services, all the activities, everything flows when you are here, it’s wonderful.”

In turn, the Conference Centre’s Managing Director, Sylvia Andrés, explained some of the activities that will be rolled out thanks to the signing of the agreement. “We intend to be a partner for World Design Capital Valencia 2022, making our building available for any congresses scheduled as well as for any other type of meeting that needs to be held in a venue of these characteristics.”
