What began as a symbolic lights-out event in Sydney in 2007 to back the struggle against climate change has become a grassroots movement which has engaged 187 countries and 7,000 cities. Earth Hour raises awareness about the consequences of global warming and the loss of wildlife that comes with it.

Our ecological commitment at the Centre is not restricted just to this action but rather is the foundation of a Global Plan which involves responsible resource management and reducing the ecological footprint of our operations. The start-up of its photovoltaic roof in 2008 was one of the building’s major sustainability milestones, and to date it has already generated more than 2.5 million kWh while avoiding the emission of 1,625 tonnes of CO2. Another more recent example is the new investment in infrastructure and audiovisual technology, over half of which is sustainable, increasing energy savings by 208,000 kWh in 2017 compared to the previous year. These initiatives have been recognised with the building earning the highest energy certification for reducing CO2 emissions. This endorsement comes in addition to its numerous environmental certificates including ISO 14001, ISO 50001, the BREEAM® ES Certificate and the “Q” Tourist Quality Certificate, which was renewed in 2017.

The blend of conference operations with sustainable initiatives is one of the most highly rated points in satisfaction surveys in which the Centre achieves outstanding scores year after year in key aspects such as facility management, service and quality.

Join us for Earth Hour. You can go along to the events organised in Valencia by WWF Spain, the largest independent international organisation engaged in safeguarding nature and the environment, and also don’t forget to turn off your lights from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on 24th March.
