How Can You Make Your Event More Sustainable?

We offer you 5 tips to help you promote food sustainability

At the Valencia Conference Centre, sustainability is part of our DNA, and our cuisine is no exception. We offer you 5 tips to help you promote food sustainability at your event:

  1. Plan attendance accurately. After initial registration, ask everyone to RSVP again for dinner to more accurately estimate the number of meals needed. Also, ask about diners’ dietary preferences (vegan, vegetarian, etc.) so you can adjust quantities appropriately and avoid unnecessary waste.

  1. Design a flexible menu. Work with our catering partner to design flexible menus, with dishes that are served in varied quantities or that can be reused. Use a seasonal calendar to create it, choosing fresh, seasonal and long-lasting ingredients instead of frozen options.

  1. Facilitate the donation of surplus food. We have an efficient system that allows us to collect and donate surplus food in good condition to local organisations. This makes it easier to donate surplus food from your event, and you will not only avoid waste, but also generate a positive impact in the community, reinforcing your organisation’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

  1. Set clear goals to reduce food waste. In addition to donations, there are other ways to reduce waste: opt for practical takeaway food formats, especially on the last day of the event; hire centrepieces made with seasonal products that can be transformed into food; and install self-service stations so that people can come whenever they want, regardless of the schedules of the parallel sessions.

  1. Educate and raise awareness. Communicate the sustainable practices promoted to your audience and include messages on the event page to contribute to raising awareness among diners, encouraging responsible consumption.

At the Valencia Conference Centre, we are committed to food sustainability and making a positive impact on our community. This is why we offer alternatives to reduce the footprint of your event in this area, and we work on projects to reduce food waste.
