Over 1,500 European dermatologists come together at the Valencia Conference Centre

After the previous events held in Krakow and Belgrade, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology has chosen Valencia, for the first time ever, to hold its 12th EADV Spring Symposium. This prestigious event will be chaired by Dr. Eduardo Nagore, Head of the Surgical-Medical Dermatology Department at the Valencian Oncology Institute, and will bring together over 1,500 specialists from all over Europe at the Valencia Conference Centre. The four-day event, which will be taking place from 5th-8th March 2015, will be attended by leading experts in the field and will generate around 4,300 overnight stays in the city, creating an economic impact of approximately €2.5 million.

Although the Valencia Conference Centre had already hosted Spanish meetings such as the 28th National Conference on Dermatology and Venereology, on this occasion, specialists from Italy, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Finland and Austria, to name just a few European countries, will be taking part in a new type of symposium announced by the Academy for this congress. This new format includes reviews and updates for experienced specialists who, due to their work commitments, are not able to keep abreast of current issues and the latest developments in the field. These sessions will be centring on histopathology, pathophysiology and treatments at higher, more complex levels. A series of educational classes will also be given to housemen and trainees, focusing on clinical check-ups, basic diagnoses, and daily treatments.

In addition, the symposium will also include a series of “What’s new” sessions and free communications on different subjects such as lesions and pigmentation, cancer, inflammatory diseases, psoriasis, infectious diseases including sexually transmitted infections (STI) and HIV, facial dermatosis, allergies, adnexal tumours, eczema, cosmetics/anti-ageing and lasers.
All these issues will be tackled from different approaches and viewpoints, according to the level and structure of the sessions. The most prestigious experts in dermatology, venereology and other related areas aim to create a conducive atmosphere among the delegates, encouraging participation and interaction between European research groups, and promoting the continuous development of dermatology across Europe.

This event is one of the most important health congresses scheduled at the Valencia Conference Centre this year. Other health meetings on the agenda include the 26th National Congress of the Spanish Diabetes Society, the International Headache Congress, the 37th National Congress of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians, the National Meeting of the Spanish Association of Hematology and Hemotherapy, and the 60th National Congress of the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy. These events alone are expected to attract around 10,000 delegates to Valencia this year.

The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology

The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology was founded in 1987, and has become the leading professional dermatology and venereology association in Europe. Its objectives are to improve the quality of patient care, provide continuous medical training for all European dermatology specialists and to represent this branch of medicine and the interests of patients. The EADV has members from all over Europe, and has also forged partnerships with other organisations.

 

The Valencia Conference Centre

The Valencia Conference Centre was opened on 2nd July 1998, and has since held 2,400 events in which over 1.6 million people have participated. The direct and indirect economic impact of this activity totals €922 million (over 30 times the amount it cost to build the facility).
The Centre, which has received numerous environmental and quality awards, was chosen as the World’s Best Convention Centre in 2010 by the AIPC (International Association of Convention Centres), and has consolidated its role as Valencia’s main venue for major congresses and conventions.
